The following information is provided as a guide to assist in discovering, researching and selecting a surgeon. Doctor Preecha Tiewtranon M.D. has been performing sex reassignment surgery (SRS) in Thailand for over 30 years. During this time he trained most of the other gender reassignment surgeons (GRS) in Thailand including, Dr. Suporn, Dr. Juta, Dr. Saran, Dr. Sanguan and many others. He has personally completed over 35,000 surgeries. He founded the Preecha Aesthetic Institute (PAI), which is the biggest plastic and reconstructive surgery center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Preecha has many associates at PAI including Dr. Sirachai Jindarak, Dr. Prayuth Chokrungvaranont, Dr. Sattha Siritantikorn, Dr. Apichai Angspatt, Dr. Sutin Khobunsongserm, and Dr. Burin Wangjiraniran. For your safety, PAI requires each surgeon to become board certified, have a year of experience with specialized surgical training and be a member of good standing in plastic surgery societies. They have performed thousands of gender reassignment surgeries (GRS).
PAI has years of experience working with people from all around the world. Since 1980, over 90% of their patients have come from outside of Thailand. They work hard to make you feel at home, even if you are on the other side of the world.
Please note that recently Dr. Preecha has been performing less and less surgeries. In many cases you will get a different surgeon, that isn't nearly as experienced. If you want Dr. Preecha to be your actual surgeon you will need to request him and wait longer.
PAI requires one letter of recommendation from a therapist for sex reassignment surgery (SRS). To meet new regulations in Thailand, you may be required to come early to see a Thai psychiatrist.(List of online gender therapists that provide surgery letters)
If you are over age 50 there will be a $100 USD charge to check your cardiology. This is to make sure that it is safe for you to have surgery. You must be over 18 years old.
Dr. Preecha does not require electrolysis for SRS because the roots of the hairs will be scraped off during the surgery. To reduce the chances of hair growth inside the vagina you can get electrolysis or laser before SRS. If you don't have the money or want more privacy you can try the Tria Laser (www.triabeauty.com) or Silk'n (www.silkn.com).
You also may be able to do some of your own electrolysis from home with the One Touch system. The cheapest place to buy it is on Ebay, it usually costs about $10 USD. Make sure to also get replacement tips though, they bend easily.
I have found Tend Skin to work very well to reduce redness and bumps after electrolysis.
You need to stop taking hormones for at least two weeks prior to surgery. This is to lower the risk of deep vein thrombosis (blood clots).
