Mr. James Bellringer is a Consultant Urologist, who is based out of Charing Cross Hospital in London.

Although he is a General Urologist, he specializes in gender reassignment surgery (GRS) for Male to Female (MtF) patients.

Mr. James Bellringer is one of the leading gender reassignment surgeons in Britain, and was trained by Mr. Michael Royle.

Mr. James Bellringer was born in 1958, and was educated at King’s College School Wimbledon, Pembroke College Cambridge, and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in London.

After Mr. Bellringer qualified in 1982, he embarked on Surgical and Urological training. After a period of time at the Institute of Urology, he was appointed a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 1995.

Finally in 1999, he was invited to train in Gender Reassignment Surgery with Mr. Michael Royle. As of 2012, Mr. Bellringer currently performs about 100 gender reassignment surgery (GRS) procedures each year, and also numerous secondary procedures.

If you are seeking a NHS referral, he works closely with the Gender Identity Clinic at Charing Cross Hospital, but he is also willing to accept private referrals from other sources.

Requirements for GRS:

Mr. Bellringer follows the WPATH standards of care.

Letters of Recommendation for GRS:

You will need to have two contemporaneous recommendations from recognised gender psychiatrists/psychologists to be able to have gender reassignment surgery with Dr. Bellringer.

(List of online gender therapists that can provide a letter for surgery)

There are no set age restrictions. You must be healthy enough for surgery, and if you are under the age of consent you will need parental permission.

Hair Removal:

Mr. Bellringer recommends hair removal if you require a scrotal skin inlay. For a simple penile inversion, it is not needed. For more information please read his hair removal guidelines.

If you would like to try to remove your pubic hair in the privacy of your own home, you can try the Tria laser (www.triabeauty.com) or Silk'n (www.silkn.com). Laser will only work if you have light skin and dark hairs.

You also may be able to do some of your own electrolysis at home with the One Touch system. The cheapest place to buy it is on Ebay, it usually costs about $10 USD. Make sure to also get replacement tips though, they bend easily.

I have found Tend Skin to work very well to reduce redness and bumps after electrolysis.

You can still have GRS with Mr. Bellringer if you have HIV. However you will need to have it under control and be in decent health.

Mr. Bellringer doesn't require for you to take estrogen prior to gender reassignment surgery.

Mr. Bellringer requires for you to have a BMI of less than 31. You can check your BMI at www.bmi-calculator.net.

You should plan on scheduling surgery with Mr. Bellringer at least two months prior to when you want GRS.

Length of Stay and Recovery:

After gender reassignment surgery, you will need to stay in the hospital for a week. Depending on how physically demanding your job is, you might need to take 3 months time off work.

After sex reassignment surgery, you will need to use a vaginal dilator for the rest of your life. This is to retain the depth. Each surgeon has slightly different methods of dilation, you will need to follow your surgeon's specific instructions.

You also will need to take estrogen for the rest of your life to prevent osteoporosis and other complications from low hormone levels.

If you don't live in Britain, you will need to research the cost of travel before scheduling. www.skyscanner.net and www.priceline.com are good places to check because they will compare prices to find the most affordable flights.
