Jim Collins Foundation:
The Jim Collins Foundation's Mission Statement Is:
The mission of the Jim Collins Foundation is to provide financial assistance to transgender people for gender-confirming surgeries.
They are a 501(c)3 tax deductible organization. So far they have paid for three sex reassignment surgeries since they were founded in 2008.
Dr. Christine McGinn has agreed perform the surgeries pro bono, so their money can help more people. However, because the demand is so high most people that apply won't be able to get any assistance.
I was one of the hundreds of people that applied for a grant in 2011 and 2012. I have been trying to save up for MTF SRS since 2007 as a teenager. I have known that I would get surgery one day since I first heard about it when I was 8 years old. I went through several periods of being homeless after transitioning.
There was no family for me to count on, my family abandoned me when I was 11. I was in state custody until I was 18. I am now in a stable living situation, but still can only afford to save about $100 a month towards surgery after paying for bills and food. I am unable to fix the gender on my ID or insurance until I can afford surgery, but my name was changed years ago.
The Jim Collins Foundation was made to help people with stories like mine. However, because most people don't understand or think about the need for SRS they don't get enough donations to help everyone. If you need surgery you should definitely apply.
You can also donate to my sex reassignment surgery fund with Paypal or credit cards by clicking the button above. I would greatly appreciate even a small donation. Seeing progress gives me the hope and strength to keep moving forward until the day that I finally have enough money for surgery.
